Navigating Postpartum Over 30: Tips for Recovery and Self-Care
Postpartum recovery is a critical time for all moms, but being over thirty years young, may come with unique challenges. Your body might recover differently than it did in your twenties, and balancing self-care with newborn care isn’t easy.
Tips for Postpartum Recovery in your thirties:
• Prioritize Rest: Let go of perfectionism and allow your body to heal. Accept all help when offered. The most critical rest period is the first thirty days, just say no to unwanted visitors, and rest!
• Fuel Your Body: Focus on nutrient-dense meals, high protein and snacks to support healing and breastfeeding. Go for a low-impact walk, get fresh air, have a phone call to catch up with a friend. Take that 30 minutes to shower and treat yourself.
• Ask for Support: A family member or postpartum doula can help with everything from baby care to emotional support.
• Check in With Yourself: Be mindful of your mental health and reach out if you’re feeling overwhelmed or anxious.
• Be easy on yourself: You might want to get back up on your feet and be at the same speed you were pre-birth. Rest, slow down, the first 90 days postpartum are critical for your heeling and bonding with baby.
Remember, self-care isn’t selfish—it’s essential for both you and your baby.
